Students are required to complete a total of 45 working days of internship at public and/or private sector organizations in Turkey or abroad. At least 30 working days of this period must be completed at Ore and Coal Preparation Plants. If desired, up to 15 of these 30 working days may be carried out at facilities that process industrial raw materials, such as cement plants, aggregate preparation facilities, and ceramic factories. Alternatively, the entire 30-day plant internship may be completed at Ore and Coal Preparation Plants. The remaining 15 working days may be spent in the production or R&D units of industries that utilize mineral processing infrastructure and require mineral inputs. Students who wish to do so may fulfill their entire 45-day internship obligation at Ore and Coal Preparation Plants.
Students notify the department internship commission of the period they wish to complete their internship by filling out the internship request form by the dates specified by the department and submitting it to the department internship commission. Internship placements approved by the department board are distributed to students by the department internship commission.
Additionally, students may also complete their internships at workplaces they find on their own. Students who find their own internship placement must obtain a "Approved for Internship" confirmation from the relevant workplace and submit the acceptance document to the internship commission by the date determined by the department internship commission. The student may begin internship procedures only after the internship placement is approved by both the commission and the Department Chair.
Before the internship;
-
If the company requires a document proving the mandatory nature of the internship, the Internship Requirement Certificate Form must be filled out by the student, approved by the relevant parties, and sent to the company.
-
The Student Agreement and Internship Application Form (Annex-1) must be filled out by the student, approved by the relevant parties, and uploaded to the system via https://portal.itu.edu.tr at least 15 days before the internship start date.
-
The student must complete the Occupational Safety Training provided by the ITU Workplace Health and Safety Unit, either online or in person. Internship and insurance procedures will not be initiated for students who have not completed this training or have failed to pass it.
-
After the relevant documents are approved by the Central Internship Unit, the SGK employment notification is prepared and sent electronically to the student and the company via registered contact information.
During and after the internship;
The student must have the Internship Start Document (Annex-2) approved by the company and upload it to https://portal.itu.edu.tr within five days of the internship start date. Internships not uploaded within the specified period will be considered as not having started.
After the internship is completed, the Internship Completion Document (Annex-3) approved by the company must be uploaded by the student to https://portal.itu.edu.tr within five days of the internship end date. Internships not uploaded within the specified period will not be included in the evaluation process.
The Internship Work Report, prepared in accordance with the required format and spiral-bound with the institution's stamp, seal, signature, and initials on each page, must be submitted to the department internship commission by the announced date, together with the Internship Report Submission Receipt, Internship Employer Evaluation Form, Internship Employer Evaluation Survey, and Internship Student Evaluation Survey. The Internship Employer Evaluation Form and Survey must be signed and stamped by the authorized representative at the internship workplace and delivered to the Department Internship Commission in a sealed and stamped envelope, either by post or by the student. Additionally, a complete copy of the internship report must be submitted in digital format (CD) along with the printed report.
Students may obtain the Internship Work Report template from https://portal.itu.edu.tr or from the department's website, and the Internship Request Form, Internship Requirement Certificate, Internship Employer Evaluation Form, Internship Employer Evaluation Survey, and Internship Student Evaluation Survey from the department's website.
Following the submission of the internship report and its attachments, student advisors complete the internship interviews by the date announced by the Department Internship Commission. Internships approved by the student advisor and the internship commission are entered into the ITU Student Information System and confirmed by the Department Internship Commission.
